OPEN FOR BIZNEZ!

That's right people, the GREATEST WARGAMING CLUB in AUCKLAND (still UN-DIS-PUTED!!!!) will open its door-shaped arms and welcome you into its air-conditioned bosom. It will lay its tables on the floor and allow you, YES YOU, to play on them.

And what should you play? Well, anything you want. We don't discriminate at TCOW. We don't sit here and say who's games you can play or how you can play them. We don't tell you not to bring something in just because The Bludgelord doesn't like it. NO! That is not how TCOW operates!

What we can give you is a place to play, somewhere you can be sure you'll be:

1. Seagulled.
2. Offered "constructive criticism" on your play style.
3. Compared to me....usually in a good light.

But you can also be damned sure you'll have:

a. A barrel of laughs.
b. A good, honest gaming experience, AND
c. No doubts that we're the best.

So, why procrastinate? Come down on Sunday and see what we're all about and if you disagree with any of what I've said, feel free to discuss it with me.

I don't think you will though.

GAME ON!!

Flames of EVERYTHING! Club Meeting - 20.09.2015

Fire. Mans oldest foe. Bringer of warmth and light. Cooker of meat. Bringer of death.

Hey TCOW'ers! Club happened over the weekend and as usual the place was fair bursting at the seams with gamers packed in everywhere trying to get their dice rolled and minis moved. Dying hobby my arse!

The TNT campaign is still going strong with no sign of slowing down. I must remember to get some games in at next club. Its been a while since the Citizens on Patrol dispensed some justice around WynnMall and from the looks of some of the muties and other unsavoury types lurking, they need some culling!

Every time the guys throw down the tables of terrain for TNT, I'm seriously in awe. They just look like fun to play on and it attracts people to come over and watch! You just can't beat a table full of good looking terrain and some well painted minis meandering their way through it. It's just one of the joys of gaming.

No more words here, enjoy the pics...

Simply amazing.

On the other side of the room, we had a couple of different games with some Dropzone Commander starter box games being played alongside a co-op Star Trek: Attack Wing game.

And in the other corner, Jon and I played some Flames of War. With FlamesCon just around the corner, I need all the practice I can get. Jon was using a slight variation on his German Infantriedivision and I was investigating how well American armour would fare without infantry support. The mission was Cauldron.

Yank Tanks attempt to flank the German positions but we know that the PaK 40's lie in wait....Given deployment was random, this was a pretty lucky roll for me.

The space behind the 2 command stands is where 3 PaK 40's used to be. In a scene reminiscent of Fury (BEST JOB I EVER HAD!!!), the American armour withstood the withering fire of the AT guns and decimated them with return fire. Jumbos most definitely lead the way!

Jon's reserve JagdPanthers came on in reserve to try and cause wreak some havoc in the rear of my lines. I still had reserves in an Armoured Recon platoon and an Armoured Artillery battery, but what use were they going to be against German Heavy tanks?!!

Quite a lot apparently! In one of the most amazing couple of turns I've ever played, I manage to get some Priest shots into side armour on the JP's, destroying one. The other took off to go Sherman hunting. My armoured recon survived the Panzerschreck assault from Jon's reserve infantry and then went kitty hunting. My Greyhounds took 2 shots at the side of the remaining JP and bailed it, causing a morale check which they failed....YAY! But then, I had to take a company test....which I failed and handed a 4-3 victory to Jon...but what a fun game!

And that, ladies and germs, is what gaming is all about! Its about having fun with friends and remembering that toy soldiers aren't real people...so why stress so much about their demise. Just play another game with them!

Unless you're playing a TNT campaign...and they die....then they're gone for good.

Until next time, adieu from THE GREATEST WARGAMING CLUB IN AUCKLAND! (To date, undisputed)

GAME ON!

Everything! Everywhere! Every Other Sunday!

Has it been two weeks already?! Man, time just flies when you're waiting for your next gaming at TCOW fix, doesn't it?!

So the doors are open this weekend! You know the times and the place and if you don't, just ask your friendly local club member or Damian to fill you in on the info.

I think this weekend has some Flames of War, Kings of War, TNT and DZC already arranged, with maybe a smattering of Bolt Action. All the ingredients for a great days gaming or seagulling, depending on your preference.

So head on down to the GREATEST WARGAMING CLUB in Auckland! The fact that this still hasn't been disputed with me means either;

a) Its true and they've all just given up, or
2) No-one is reading this.

Either way, TCOW wins!

GAME ON!!!

TCOW Meets - 6 September and a Rememberance

Typically, we start off the blog update with some kind of witty, quirky linking story to the things that we did at club this meeting. This week, however, I'm opening with some sad news.

Yesterday, we were told about the passing of a toy soldier general-in-arms from the Wellington area, Nick Garden. Many of us had the pleasure of facing Nick across the table, be it in Warmahordes or Flames of War and I have never heard a bad word spoken of him. He played for the game and played for the fun and every time I played him, he did it with a smile even if he was thrashing my arse.

The wargaming community in Wellington and New Zealand is poorer for his passing and our thoughts and condolences extend to his his family.

Rest in Peace Nick, may your dice always come up 6.

Club Meeting

Another full house at TCOW this weekend, that's for sure! The card-floppers were banished to the other room to make way for the soldier gamers...which really was fair enough!

So what did we have, I hear you ask? Well:

Bolt Action

Great to see some Bolt Action back at TCOW after a bit of a hiatus. Dave and Saul decided to try some limey on limey action first with Saul using a new, cheaty list that he's dreamt up with a heap of Uni Carriers.

Needless to say, it has a heap of shooting and will take down any infantry not hidden. Dave was pretty well decimated so I decided to pop my SS down for a try. Whats the worst that could happen? I'm Veteran!

Apparently Veteran means nothing in the face of Bren fire and when your Panther, Panzerschreck and Panzerfausts cant cause carriers to blow up, you know you're having a bad day!

TNT

Everyone's favourite post-apocalyptic skirmish game was back in force with 4 tables of action this week. I'm still astounded and the lengths people are going to to really get into the narrative of the game and their own warbands. Its awesome to see! Apparently, there was a captured Faizal on Peter's warband....but Peter doesn't negotiate with kidnappers....

Flames of War

A couple of tables of Flames made an appearance with The Bludgelord deciding to walk Token through his first game. Faizal has recently acquired a shit-tonne of Soviets so what better to face them off against than Damo's Tigers...

I'll let you guess the outcome there...

Jonathan and Steve also got some tuning in for their respective 1500 point lists. German v. German with Steve's Peiper trying to sow some distrust in the German lines with Skorzeny teams.

They went pop pretty quickly....

Kings of War 2

El Presidente volunteered to walk a new player through their first game of KoW and they both decided to use the new rules (which should be turning up soon) so we got to see some Undead on Abyssal Dwarf action.

And finally!

Isn't that enough? Are you not entertained?!!

OK, well we had some ST:AW as well...

Oh, and some M:TG Commander fun.

Blue Mages rock!

All in all, another amazing day of fun at TCOW. 30+ peeps playing all kinds of games without being restricted to a single system. Everyone laughing even if they were being curb stomped.

TCOW is the best wargaming club in Auckland! Disagree? Prove me wrong!

GAME ON!
