Damn It's Hot! Club Meeting - 31 January

That the maker TCOW has air conditioning, right?! Really though, given we're the BEST WARGAMING CLUB in Auckland (still undisputed, might I add) you wouldn't really expect anything but top notch facilities, right?

So what did we get up to this week, I hear you ask? Well, read on valued reader, read on!

Bolt Action

Bolt Action made a triumphant return to TCOW this week with a couple of games being played. Looked to me like people were getting in some practice for Battlecry...but that wouldn't be the case at TCOW, right?

Dave and Saul played a Brit on Brit game with some slight variations in their lists. Both had carriers, with Saul having a few more that Dave. Looked like a really amazing game and I forgot to ask who won! Oh well, the playings the thing, right?

Andrew and Monkey also got some Bolt Action in with Andrew's French trying a sneaky invasion of Walmington-on-Sea and Monkey's Home Guard trying to hold them back. This one looked like a heap of fun as well. Monkey even had a bus.

Great to see some Bolt Action getting played. Might have to dust off my SS for next club I think!

SAGA

Jon had intended on having an intro game of SAGA against a newcomer to TCOW...slight difference in times though.

The game eventually got going and some Normans tried to ride down the Viking horde wanting to pillage them!

Frostgrave

You know that we played some Frostgrave! Molly and Stu started off a potential campaign with a quick game. Once again, some beautiful terrain on display for this one!

Magic Commander League

Week 2 of our Commander League was well attended with 8 players split into 2 pods which were then changed after the first game. Players were allowed to make changes to their decks this week so some different cards in play.

Some heathens even played with NO SLEEVES!!! Sacrilege!

Check out the standings over on the TCOW Commander League Facebook group!

So there you go! We'll have a write up of the shenanigans of DanCon III later today, so keep an eye out! Until next time...

Club Meeting - 17 Jan 2016

It was cold at the first TCOW meeting of 2016...so cold. It was cold enough to send one to ones grave even! Mind you, that could have been the air conditioning which really was needed given the temperature outside!

So, what did we do at TCOW this week, I can hear you asking....well, sit right there and read on!

Frostgrave

A couple of tables depicting the frozen city of Feldgast appeared and a couple of intro games happened, Stu took Dave through a game and Molly and Martina took a run through the snowy streets. Some beautiful scenery on offer which makes games even more interesting.

Looks like this one will be next on the campaign trail for TCOW and I for one will be getting into it for sure!

Flames of War

A couple of games of Flames going on as well this week. Mike and Jon continued TCOW's involvement in the global Caen campaign with Jon's Grenadiers tried to stave off a thrust from Mike's Brits. Loving seeing some Churchill's hit the table as well!

This ended in a hard-fought 4-3 to the Allies but at a cost....Mike's poor carrier platoons.

Dan also ran a newcomer to both TCOW and Flames through a  couple of games in preparation for DanCon III. Early War German tanks taking on their British contemporaries. Pretty sure Dan lost a game too....

Magic EDH League

This week was the first week of the TCOW Magic Commander league as well. A couple of games played there and the results and standings will end up on a new TCOW page on Facebook! Keep an eye out!

DanCon III

Coming to a TCOW near you, DanCon III will be run by the club on Monday 1 February (Auckland Anniversary). 1000 points of Mixed Double Early War goodness featuring the 'Carried to Victory' rule (affectionately known as Cheeto Eating). There may still be some space, so check with Dan if you want to play.

Next Club: 7 February

T.C.O.W 2016!

That's right gamers, TCOW is back for 2016 and boy are we excited! There is a lot planned for this year in terms of gaming and events and just keeping the roll from last year continuing. Just some of the things planned are:

- DanCon III - Just around the corner, this is Flames of War at its funnest. 1000 points of Random Doubles goodness and this year, its Early....Early War that is!

- TCOW's Magic Commander league. Its a happening thing baby! Card slinging is real and its not going anywhere! We've spent too much money on it!

- Frostgrave is gearing up and I get the feeling that there is something magical planned.

And with a heap of new games on the horizon, I'm sure we'll be seeing lots of new shinys soon.

The first meeting for the year isn't far away, 17th of January in fact, so make your plans to have the day set aside for gaming!

That's right....

WE'RE BACK, BABY! GAME ON!!!

LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT THING!!! Club Meeting - 29/11

Apparently, this week's meeting was the last of the year. Given that Clash of Kings is on during the next club meeting and the whole Unholy Trinity will be there, no one can open the doors. Well, shit. There is some chattering about basement games though, so keep an eye on the Facebook.

That being said then, I'm sure I speak for the totality of the UT when I say thank you for you continued and ongoing support of the BEST WARGAMING CLUB in Auckland. There's no way it could be done without people showing up and having a great time enjoying the hobby. Well done, top notch indeed!

So, what did we do this week? Well!!!

One thing was dominating the scene at TCOW this week. Andrew and his Borg Cube. Now, I'm not talking about a Scout Cube. I'm talking a HUGE, full size (in scale) Cube. I mean, look at this thing:

Andrew and Ryan had a couple of games with this thing on the table. I believe that Ryan won the first and then lost the second. Andrew has plans to light this one up inside, which will look AWESOME!

We had 3 games of Flames of War this week, all as part of the Rust and the City Firestorm: Caen campaign.

Mike and Pat fought at Juno Beach with Pat's 12. SS managing to escape the clutches of Mike's Canadians and securing a 4-3 victory.

Beautifully laid out table with some equally well-painted models on display for this game and some very interesting turns. From what I heard, Mike definitely used his RAF support to its fullest.

Pablo and Jon fought in Breville, with the AARR attempting to hold back the Hun tide as best they could. This would see them secure a 4-3 victory, despite Jon's best attempts to dislodge them.

And finally, Wayne and I battled at Villers, with my American 3AD attempting to block a counter-thrust from Wayne's 2. SS Panthers supported by Michael Wittman. I managed to hold them back, but at rather large cost, taking the victory 4-3.

A significant moment in the game occurred when Wayne's reserve Pz IV's rolled on by the objectives. I had my ARP holding them but under weight of fire, they find themselves pinned. Wayne moves in for the assault and I have 2 Bazooka's (pinned, remember) which can make defensive fire. 5's needed and....a 5 and a 6!!! Hits! Now, Wayne makes his saves...or rather...doesn't. One killed and one bailed and the assault fails.

The APR then, seeing these buttoned down tanks, unpins and assaults, capturing all of them! WE HOLD THE GOAT!

So 3 games played to contribute to the campaign and a minor Allied victory all told. Nice to be on the winning side of the ledger!

Francis and Jed played a game of Kings of War, Undead vs. Denizens of the Abyss I believe. From the mutterings I heard, this ended as a draw.

And finally, more EDH action as guys start getting practice in for the eagerly anticipated TCOW M:TG EDH League, starting next year!

At one point on about turn 5 of this game, Damo decided to crack his incubator and create....48 MYR TOKENS!!!

Which he then gains himself 48 additional life from...

So we told him to go away, while we played properly...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, there you have it. The final meeting of TCOW for 2015 and what a year its been! Keep an eye on Facebook for details of the first 2016 meeting and also information on DanCon III, the most highly anticipated Flames of War tournament in January.

From all of us behind the scenes at TCOW, we wish you and yours a very Happy Holidays. Have fun, stay safe and we'll see you in 2016.
