It's a Disco! - Club Meeting 30 July

Oonst, oonst, oonst...the Disco-Crons are moving!

That's right ladies and gents, we're still firmly in the grip of Warhammer 40k and we aren't looking back! Everyone seems pretty well taken with how the rules are working and how much fun the game actually is. It's a really good example of a game, reinvented and rejuvenated to bring back players.

So, what did we have?

Damo and Darren threw down 1500 point of 'Cron on Space Elf action. Apparently, Darren did have enough troops and everything for 1500 points so he HAD to throw in a Wraithknight....you know, to make it fair and all that jazz....

Space Elf stuff starting their approach to the shiny, disco horde...

Shiny Disco-Crons!

Glen and I went for some Marine on Marine action with my, as-yet unnamed Ultramarine Successors taking on the Sons of Russ.

One thing I do know for sure, I hate Force-Shields...

Stu and Andrew headed to Japan this week for a Test of Honour.

While Greg and Daryl headed to the Old World for some Blood Bowl. I believe this was semi-final action for the Auckland Blood Bowl league.

And there were some tiny ships flying around as well...

All in all, a pretty damned good club day!

The next club will see the second Bludgefest for the year, so it's time to dig out all that plastic and resin you're actually never gonna paint and get some cash for it!

HYYYYYYPPPPPPPEEEEEEEE!!!! Club Meeting - 18 June

Woooo wooooo!!! All aboard the HYPE TRAIN!!!

This weekend was release weekend for the new edition of Warhammer 40k and it has many TCOW gamers now firmly in its daemon-like talons!

Now, hang on, hang on....we don't play GW games at TCOW, right? Well not any more noob! This latest edition now streamlines the game and makes it fun again! A lot of people with whom I have spoken have now said that its the best version of 40k since 3rd.

And so, with new Dark Imperium boxes, Indexes and assorted spikey terrain, we hit the club and had a total of 6 games of 40k played. The races played included:

- Tau
- Necrons
- Tyranids
- Chaos, including Chaos Space Marines of the Khorne, Slannesh and Nurgle flavour.
- Space Marines, and
- BEEEEG MAHREENS!!!!

Photos required!

Necrons about to take on the World Eaters and Kharn...

Tau and Noise Marines hitting it!

Wubba Lubba Wobots!

Apparently Attack Bikes are alright....

You'll have to excuse the unpainted models. A lot of us have recently only acquired our armies!

And while all the HYYYYPE! was around 40k, we still managed to get a few more systems in the door!

X-Wing, Flames of War and Blood Bowl all got a run as well!

So, there you have it team! Another club meeting in the books!

And, if you're not convinced of the Legitness and/or Hypeness of 40k, then maybe you should come and check it out!

THE HYPE.....IS REAL!

Don't You Remember When We Were Young: Club Meeting - 26 March

Hello.

Greg was absent this weekend. He swapped rolling dice for Rolling in the Deep at the Adele concert.

Rumour Has It, he said He Won't Go, but his wife said this would be her One And Only chance to see the singer in concert, so he avoided the Cold Shoulder and showed some Sweet Devotion.

Unfortunately, there was a lot of Skyfall, making Greg wish he could Set Fire To The Rain. Meanwhile, the rest of us ended up feeling the way we did When We Were Young; Turning Tables on our opponents, leaving the victors basking in Hometown Glory.

Moving on...

We didn't have a huge turnout last weekend, but still managed to get at least a half dozen games in. I didn't get any photos, but I'll link to some later on.

There were two games of X-Wing, some Elf on Elf Blood Bowl action, the world's least historical Bolt Action game, and an epic game of... Epic.

I didn't see much of one of the X-Wing games because I was too deeply engrossed in my own. I fielded the full Phoenix Squadron from Star Wars Rebels (Ghost, Phantom, and Sabine's TIE Fighter) against Boba Fett and some potent Scum fighters.

The battle was tense, with me learning the hard way that the bounty hunter is best kept at a distance. Even though I won in the end, all three of my ships were one hull point away from destruction. Easily the most thrilling game of X-Wing I've ever had.

Over on the Bolt Action table, some winter Germans went up against a LOT of Japanese infantry down the main street of a small English town. The Germans drew first blood with devastating nebelwerfer salvo and the Japanese had trouble evening the score with their bayonets, swords, and spears.

With his Japanese sent packing, Paul switched from soldiers to gladiators and played a particularly bloody game of Arena Rex with David. You can check out photos from the game on the Arena Rex Facebook Group. You'll need to join up to see the photos, but it's well worth it.

And that's basically it for this weekend. See you all again in two weeks time - or next weekend if you're attending Grand Slam.

BLUDGEFEST IV

"Portobello Road, Portobello Road. Street where the riches of ages are stowed. Anything and everything a chap can unload, is sold off a barrow down Portobello Road. You'll find what you want on the Portobello Road."

Now if you're old enough to know where this little ditty came from*, you're pretty old man...

but once a year (sometimes twice) we invite nerds from far and wide to head to TCOW and disperse their unwanted plastic, metal, cardboard and resin to some other poor sod to store at their place, typically for cash but often for barter! It is the event known as BLUDGEFEST, and it was AWESOME!

So many different things for so many different games all looking for a new home!

And so many willing recipients!

They came from far and wide to sample the wares...

So much stuff!

But of course, being a club day, that also meant gaming was in action as well! There was X-Wing, Epic, Dystopian Wars, Kings of War and Blood Bowl all played.

Blood Bowl was awesome! Daryl and I played to get some practice in before SteamApe at the end of February.

And I should know better than to use Dwarf dice when playing Chaos...

And finally, Mike and Andrew broke out some nostalgia in the form of the old Decipher Star Trek CCG. Good times!

We closed the day with a rousing few games of Exploding Kittens! MEOW....BOOM!@@@@@@

And so Bludgefest ended....and it was great!

GAME ON!

* It's from Bedknobs and Broomsticks....which even features invading Germans.
